My relationship with dogs began the moment I came home from the hospital when Sparky, my parents’ dog, dropped his ball onto my head. From that moment on, I have had a special bond with dogs.

At the age of 2, I got the first puppy of my own. I named him Ernie after my favorite character on Sesame Street. Ernie and I grew up together. Spent many hours running in the backyard, going on walks, he put up with a lot from my friends and I through the years! My senior year of high school we had to make the heartbreaking decision to let him go as he had grown old and sick.
The next pet to come into my life was Toby, my aunt and uncle’s dog. I lived with them while I was in graduate school and sort of adopted her as my own while I was there. She slept with me, I took her on walks, we spent a lot of time together during the days while everyone else was out at work and I was home studying. A deep passion for pets stirred in my heart.

In 2012 my husband and I began talking about getting a dog of our own, and in October, we went to the shelter and fell in love with a shy, quiet stray who leaned on our legs during the meet-and-greet. We knew he had to be ours. We named him Oliver and our hearts had more love for him than we ever thought possible. We began training classes with him and developed such a deep bond through those. Soon we discovered he has several food allergies, and I began making homemade dog treats for him to try to avoid the many things he is allergic to. I wanted to make it a business, but I needed to get a “real job” instead.
That “real job” was at PetSmart. During my several years working there, my passion for pets and pet parents deepened. I knew I was going to work in the pet industry forever with the goal of equipping pet parents to be able to care for their pets in the best ways possible.
While at PetSmart, a friend approached me about adopting a dog he had recently saved and was fostering. The dog had a neglected first six months of life. After much praying and thinking, Case came into our life. Case has tested us mentally, emotionally, and physically. We have been on a intense training journey with him which has grown him, and most importantly us. We are better people and better pet lovers since Case has been in our life.
